Guam - A presentation on energy efficiency and an overview of a strategic plan for energy conservation funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior was held today at the Leon Guerrero School of Business on the University of Guam campus. Scott Haase, senior project leader with the National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy Office, says there are many technological advances to reduce energy use such as solar hot water heating systems, Energy Star-rated appliances and compact fluorescent lighting.

He shared some simple things you can do to conserve energy as well, saying, "Conservation strategies as far as people thinking about how much energy they are using and actually turning off your lights and making sure and making sure your windows are closed when your air conditioners are on

The presentation was free and open to the public. Haase says the DOI funded the study for all three territories - American Samoa, Saipan and Guam. He will next bring his presentation on the study to the CNMI.
