Submarines secured after breaking free
Guam - The Joint Region Marianas Public Affairs Office confirms that two submarines broke free of their mooring lines Friday night due to tsunami waves. The incident occurred at approximately 8 o'clock Friday night. The USS Houston and USS City of Corpus Christi mooring lines broke from the pier at Alpha wharf at Naval Base Guam.
According to a media release, tugboats from the Naval Base Guam responded quickly and safely moored both submarines. USS Frank Cable moored at Alpha wharf and USS Oklahoma City remained safely secured throughout the tsunami event. Local and Federal authorities were notified.
