Guam - A Junior Reserve Offices Training Corps competition is being held at the Simon Sanchez High School student parking lot today in Yigo. All public high schools and Father Duenas Memorial School are competing to determine which unit will go off-island to compete against 72 other schools in California.
Featured today included armed drill, unarmed drill and color guard competitions.
Battalion commander for Simon Sanchez High School Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Kyle Duenas says today was a very eventful day, telling KUAM News, "Today is a very competitive event. We have a lot of events going on and it's non-stop, so we're looking forward to everything today. It's a big adrenaline rush. We look forward to this every year. We practice really hard for this event. So today is the payoff date."
And Shark Battalion Unarmed Drill Team Commander Cadet Captain Keara Bucek added, "People can expect a wild crowd when it comes to exhibition. That's when our teams break away from the regular drill - left face, right face. We will slap around some beats and spin those rifles and really get people going."
