GCC partners with GFD to repair ambulances
by Nick Delgado
Guam - Hoping to resolve the ongoing problems with the shortage of ambulances on island, the Guam Community College has partnered up with the Guam Fire Department to repair the ailing fleet. The college's Automotive Department will assist in the effort.
GFD Captain Ed Flores says this will relieve the agency from its biggest challenge being funding for labor and parts. He says, "GCC has master mechanics and students that need projects. Our mechanics are overwhelmed, because our ambulances are out there 24/7. They do their best, but with so much wear and tear, we need help. There are so many systems on an ambulance that need constant maintenance - the air-con, the suctioning system."
The entered into a memorandum of understanding and GFD will supply the parts. Adelup also released $200,000 recently from the Department of Public Works Public Safety Highway Bond to pay for repairs to the medics.
