Guam - The Department of Education's new legal counsel, Rebecca Santo Tomas is well into her first week on the job. Her top priority is ensuring federal stimulus funded projects and contracts are reviewed thoroughly.
She told KUAM News, "It's been no secret that we've got some funds that are under tight deadlines on how it'll be spent. We're working on some issues. There are a number of things that we'd like to address on a day to day basis. So I think it's really just trying to identify those priorities. I think one of the things that is on top of the list is to make sure we get our federal and local monies and spend them in accordance with the law."
DOE is set to receive about $90 million from the federal government for capital improvement projects, technology and other programs.
