Guam - Director of the Department of Public Works Joanne Brown held a press conference this morning at the corner of Marine Corps Drive and Wusstig Road in Yigo about a problematic traffic light at the intersection.

With the northern village's mayor, Robert Lizama, and Dededo mayor Melissa Savares by her side, the new director explains how the lack of a right turn lane has caused a safety hazard and how her agency is working to remedy the situation. "We are very pleased that we do have a signal light it was operated as of 9am yesterday and we certainly hope that will contribute to the safety of the intersection," Brown announced.

"We do know there have been a number of fatalities in a fairly short time so we certainly hope that this in at least the immediate future addresses the safely concerns for our residents and those of us traveling through this village."

Brown says they have also extended the green light time out of Wusstig Road onto Marine Corps Drive to turn left for travelers to heading up towards Andersen Air Force Base. In the future, she says DPW plans to build a right lane out of Wusstig Road for travelers heading south towards Hagatna.
