New DepCor director says he'll work with staff

Guam - Over at the Department of Corrections, there's a push there to correct the issues plaguing the agency, according to the new DepCor director Jose San Agustin. In the past year the prison was inundated with a variety of problems such as a murder at the Mangilao facility, an investigation involving an inmate produced film that showed the warden with inmates at the Minimum Security Unit having a barbeque as well as an investigation into missing funds from an inmate pilot program.
Despite the ongoing concerns including the more than one million dollars owed in overtime, San Agustin says he has confidence that he can tackle the issues with the help of his staff. "Let them know that I'm behind the things that they do but also ensure that I mentor the senior and also the lowest ranking member in the department so that we start making right decision, right choices and doing the right thing for detainees and also the officers that are taking care of these individuals," he said.
