Guam - Operation Valiant Shield gets underway on Sunday as the Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps join forces for the third such exercise conducted by the United States in the last four years. According to the Navy, Valiant Shield begins near Palau and consists of an opposed transit as the ships steam east and ends near Guam.
The Navy's Carrier Strike Group and Amphibious Ready Group along with the forward deployed U.S. Air Force Air Expeditionary Wing and Marine Corps unit will participate in the exercise. The ten-day exercise focuses on integrated joint training and enables proficiency in the forces' response to various missions.
