Guam - Senator Judi Guthertz introduced a bill to create a partnership with several Government of Guam entities to construct multipurpose centers in all villages. The measure would eliminate the need to use island schools as typhoon shelters. If the Legislature and Governor Felix Camacho approve Bill 461-30, Mangilao and Inarajan will be the first villages to benefit.
Says Guthertz, "Our community is seeking a healthier lifestyle and the use of our schools as typhoon shelters impedes the learning process during our most vulnerable times - schools as typhoon shelters will be to showcase the pride of our community and a multipurpose center would address all these needs."
The bill, The Community Partnership Act of 2010, will establish a community partnership council tasked with identifying a financial plan in order to see the construction through.
