Guam - Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Underwood says they are closer to receiving approval from the feds to transfer the recently awarded $12 million in American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funds toward programs that are funded under the consolidated grant. The education chief says she received an e-mail from the USDOE Risk Management Office that they may be able to use the funds, which will then be reimbursed once a third-party fiduciary agent is hired.

"Their preliminary assessment of my letter indicates that we could access the ARRA funds," Underwood said. "But I am awaiting the official approval; once that's given to us, then we should be able to provide funding."

Underwood says they can fund Direct Instruction, success for all as well as DEED once DOE gets the final approval.
