Feds on the clock for Van De Veld issue
Guam - The feds have until the end of today to file a response or opposition to local attorney Curtis Van De Veld's failure to surrender $30,000. A hearing was scheduled earlier this week but was postponed as District Court Judge Joaquin Manibusan felt the government should respond to the arguments raised by Van De Veld. The defense attorney says he already spent the $30,000 he was paid by his former client, Kenrick Gajo.
The feds are attempting to have that money seized from Van De Veld and forfeited as they contend those funds were from the sale of illegal drugs. The order to show cause hearing was continued to July 16, with the government's response due today and Van De Veld's reply brief due July 9.
