Guam - A special event was held last night in Hagatna to raise awareness about various legislation that seek to raise the drinking age and reduce the hours of the sale of alcohol on the island. Dozens of people from the medical and local community participated in the candlelight vigil, including family members of the late Ramon Oberiano, who was killed by a drunk driver while riding his bike along Marine Corps Drive in Piti in December 2006.
Several bills have been introduced to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21 and prohibit the sale or of serving of alcohol between the hours of 2-8am, while another would impose a fine for those vendors violating the law governing the hours of the sale of alcohol.
