New eco-friendly housing facility in Mangilao
Guam - Construction began this week on eco-friendly community housing. Sagan Bonita in the central village of Mangilao is expected to be completed in about six months. Housed on a quarter acre lot, the moderate-income homes will eventually accommodate 22 families. Executive director of the Micronesia Self-Help Housing Corporation Carlos Camacho explained that how he was able to blend federal money with local funds to get the project off the ground.
"I leveraged resources with the local housing authority [GHURA] overseeing HUD programs, leverage grants for companies to participate and I was able to leverage grants from federal grants United States Department of Agriculture using some of their programs," he said.
