Guam - Local farmers are now eligible to receive financial assistance for transportation costs through a U.S. Department of Agriculture program. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo announced today that the Agricultural, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Appropriations Act of 2010 provided $2.6 million for the reimbursement transportation cost payment program for geographically disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.

The program allows for farmers on Guam to offset up to 25% of costs incurred for transporting agricultural commodity.  Farmers can receive up to $8,000 in benefits from this program, and may apply between August 2 and September 10.
