Guam - The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting search and rescue efforts off Guam's shores for a 40-year-old man in a 13-foot black and blue canoe who was separated from his party during a fishing trip about 150 yards northwest of Pingelap. A news release states that the fishing party was on their way back to shore after weather conditions became unfavorable in the Federated States of Micronesia Friday evening.

A Coast Guard aircrew from Air Station Barbers Point launched an HC-130 Hercules aircraft to assist in the search for the mariner. A crew aboard a U.S. Navy P-3 Orion, a long-range aircraft from Kadena Air Base in Japan, is scheduled to join the search on Monday.

Anyone with any information about the missing man is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Guam at 355-4824.
