Guam - The Department of Education is preparing for summer school. Several weeks ago, the agency said it couldn't hold classes due to the lack of funding, but Adelup stepped in and found the monies to support the program through the General Fund.

According to DOE Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Bretania Underwood, this year the Eskuelen Puengi night school program will be merged with summer school.  "At this point, we're just pleased that funding has been made available by the Governor's Office, Acting Governor Mike Cruz and the Department of Administration," she explained.  "The schools right now, the principals have all the packets. They would just need to contact their principals."

The programs were threatened earlier because DOE is currently unable to access federal dollars because a third-party fiduciary agent must be hired first. In the meantime, classes begin on June 14.
