Guam - The Guam War Claims Act was adopted as an amendment to the defense bill. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo introduced the amendment on the House floor today. Members voted to recognize the people of Guam for their sacrifice during World War II. Bordallo says the house fulfilled its obligation to ensure that the matter of Guam war claims is addressed in the annual defense measure.
It marks the fourth time the U.S. House of Representatives has taken a vote on the matter.
The House plans to vote on final passage of the act before the end of the week, but it will still need to be reconciled with the Senate Defense Authorization Bill. That's where the hurdle has been each year as the Senate has never voted in favor of its inclusion.
