Guam - Guam Federation of Teacher Steward Carol Somerfleck says she has contacted the American Federation of Teachers and the U.S. Department of Labor on concerns some members have on changes to the bylaws for the Guam Federaton of Teachers. Somerfleck has questioned amendments made to the constitution and called for the removal of GFT president Matt Rector.
Somerfleck says both entities have expressed concerns. "When I showed them what I had and I told them what I had, they were very interested to know everything that was occurring so I'm hoping I'll have some input from them. The concern there, especially with the Department of Labor, is that GFT has not been following the federal laws," she said, adding, "hopefully the outcome will lead to some reelections or redo of elections."
Somerfleck says while several members voted in favor the amendments several weeks ago, she further questions those who voted and whether they were eligible to vote.
