Awards given for outstanding police work

Lieutenant Governor Mike Cruz recognized individuals he calls "the first responders of human tragedy" today. A proclamation signing was held at Adelup this morning declaring Guam Police Week. Several officers and civilians were recognized for their hard work during the past year.

Guam - Lieutenant Governor Mike Cruz recognized individuals he calls "the first responders of human tragedy" today. A proclamation signing was held at Adelup this morning declaring Guam Police Week. Several officers and civilians were recognized for their hard work during the past year.

Helen Toves was awarded the Civilian of the Year Award, while Officer John Gamboa was given the Police Officer of the Year Award.  "I enjoy serving the people," said Gamboa, "it's the reason why I became a police officer and this is one of those awards that I can say thank you, I did my job and I am very grateful for that."

An official award ceremony will be held May 12 at Government House.
