Federal programs conference concludes

Guam - The Department of Education wrapped up its two-day conference aimed at teaching all stakeholders involved with handling federal funding how to be accountable. The local agency has been on shaky ground with USDOE which has expressed concerns over the years on how they've been managing federal money.
Federal Programs Administrator Ike Santos said, "We're having to go back to square one and explain to everyone that we're under a microscope in the expenditure of these funds and we have to be not just frugal, but we have to be cognizant that its not out money - it's the federal money that is intended for our schoolchildren."
DOE has received about $140 million inclusive of American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funding so far.
