Guam - Vice-Speaker B.J. Cruz is recommending that adequate radiation testing of Apra Harbor occur first before any dredging of the facility begins or material is dumped into an ocean disposal site.  The Democrat lawmaker submitted comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Impact Statement for the ocean dredged materials disposal site, which is identified as the area 11 nautical miles northwest of outer Apra Harbor.

Cruz included in his comments that independent radiation testing be conducted on the proposed dredge sites.  He believes the USEPA failed to address his concerns stated during scoping meetings held last year for the proposed ocean disposal site.  The federal government is accepting comments from the public until May 14.
