Guam - As a result of routine regulatory activity requiring testing of fruits and vegetables for residual pesticide, the Department of Public Health issued an advisory Tuesday night warning the public of results of test conducted on pechay cabbage (also called "bok choy") and cucumbers. The results revealed the presence of pesticides that are not authorized for use on these particular vegetables.

Specifically, samples of pechay cabbage and cucumber were found to be contaminated with trace amounts of pesticides. The pechay cabbage was found to have the pesticide cyhalothrin, while the cucumber was found to have two pesticides, dimethoate and chlorpropham.

Public Health noted though that the levels of pesticides detected on these produce are low and risk towards public health is minimal.
