Coast Guard, Navy respond to mayday call

The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Assateague and the Navy's HSC-25 Helicopter Unit responded to a mayday call about 65 nautical miles off the northern tip of Saipan this morning.

Guam - The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Assateague and the Navy's HSC-25 Helicopter Unit responded to a mayday call about 65 nautical miles off the northern tip of Saipan this morning. Officials located the disabled San Antonio fishing vessel along with the three crewmembers aboard after two hours of combing rough waters.

The crew was headed toward the fishing ground Zealandia Bank when the vessel was anchored and the crew was unable to start the engines. No injuries were reported and the crew was safely returned to Saipan at 1pm this afternoon.

The community is reminded a small craft advisory was issued and is expected to last throughout the day.
