Guam - The Guam Waterworks Authority and contractor Smithbridge are just weeks away from completing upgrades at the Ugum Water Treatment Plant. The $8.4 million project has been in the works for the past three years.

GWA Spokesperson Heidi Ballendorf says the new system will prevent the low to no water pressure for southern residents during the rainy season, "which will help up treat more water faster, so we don't have that 'T' word during rainy reason. The turbidity word however I say that because we'll see how that goes, we're hoping that we don't have to shut down the plant during the rainy season."

The upgrade to the Ugum plant is slated for completion by mid-April.
