Guam - The jury trial of retired assistant fire chief Frank mesa began today as the prosecution and defense presented opening arguments.  A jury was empanelled on Friday and sat through the first day of the trial today as the government presents its case.  Mesa pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of bilking the government out of tens of thousands of dollars and labor.

Several years ago KUAM News conducted an investigation and found that Mesa was signing timesheets indicating he was working at the Guam Fire Department when he in fact was working for the Transportation Security Administration but still receiving two paychecks.

The trial continues tomorrow before Judge Arthur Barcinas.
