Calvo's bill aims to help DOE cash shortage

By KUAM NewsGuam - Senator Eddie Calvo has introduced legislation that he contends will address the Department of Education's budget shortfall as well as the funding crisis facing the I Famagu'on-Ta program. Senator Calvo saying there is $7.4 million in the unreserved fund balance of the territorial education facilities fund, of that amount, Senator Calvo introduced Bill 235 in September appropriating $2.5 million to I Famagu'on-Ta, DOE and other programs.
That bill has not yet been heard.
The remaining of the unreserved fund balance is $4.87 million. Senator Calvo wants that money to be appropriated to help cover DOE's shortfall. Bill 292, which was introduced Wednesday will make that appropriation.
