Federal officials offer sympathies to Samoa, Philippines
During a speech on the House floor today, Guam congressional delegate Madeleine Bordallo offered her condolences to the people of American Samoa and the Philippines. Her speech was made after Father Daniel P. Coughlin, Chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives, offered a prayer before morning business on the House floor. More than a hundred people died from an earthquake and tsunami.

In the meantime, Department of the Interior DOI Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas Tony Babauta also offered his condolences and indicated the possibility of traveling to American Samoa to see the devastation first hand and help with the federal response.
