Not even seven minutes after the storm watch was declared for Guam, the island experienced an islandwide power outage. According to Guam Power Authority spokesperson Art Perez says they were able to restore areas near the Guam Memorial Hospital, different parts of Nimitz Hill, Cabras Island, the Ipan area of Talofofo, and parts of Tamuning, Dededo and Yigo.

He says the utility agency projects for most areas to be up before midnight tonight. He said for consumers who continue to be without power, "If they're going to run their generators, please shut off the main breakers and make sure your generators are well ventilated at this point and as I receive updates from my dispatchers, I'll provide that information."

Perez couldn't pinpoint the cause of the outages, only saying GPA received reports of lightning strikes. He says once full restoration is made throughout the island, they will be able to determine the cause of the outages.

In the meantime, if you're having any problems with your power, call dispatchers at 475-1472/3/ or 4.
