The Department of Public Works' Office of Highway Safety will be conducting an education campaign reminding residents about the amendment to Guam's seatbelt law, which imposes additional fines for those who are caught riding in a car without a seatbelt. DPW's Therese Matanane said, "Effective January 1, 2010, if you are caught not wearing your seatbelt, you'll be fined $100."
She added, "Within a year if you have a second penalty, it'll go up to $200. So January 1, every one in a vehicle must be restrained with either a seatbelt or a child restraint."
