Up to 75 temporary employees could be hired with half-billion dollar grant

As many as 75 temporary employees could be hired above step to help the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority carry out the half-billion dollar Fix In Six program.
GHURA’s board of commissioners recently approved a resolution to authorize six government agencies to hire the additional employees, recognizing a need for more manpower. Those include Public Works, Parks & Recreation, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency, Land Management, and the Chamorro Land Trust Commission.
GHURA’s board and management forecasted challenges recruiting the temporary staff and authorized GHURA executive director Elizabeth Napoli to hire “above the minimum step” of the position’s paygrade, up to Step 10.
As reported,. Guam was allocated some $500.8 million through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Grant to aid in the long-term recovery from Typhoon Mawar and the mitigation of future disasters. The 75 positions will be funded by the grant.
GHURA has until March 2031 to expend the entirety of the funds.
