DOC officer's privately-owned firearm stolen from their vehicle
During Senator Shawn Gumataotao's oversight hearing with the Department of Corrections which covered several concerns, Senator Chris Barnett brought up a recent incident at the Mangilao compound, asking if the DOC director could comment on the record.
"A firearm of a corrections officer was stolen from this correction officer's vehicle which was parked inside of the corrections facility footprint?" said the senator.
Chief Fred Bordalo, Jr. replied, "I could just confirm that there's an ongoing criminal investigation and also an internal affairs and the officer who made that report about a stolen firearm is on administrative leave with pay."
Bordallo has shared with KUAM News that as for safety precautions the warden placed the facility in emergency threat level conditions. Several search shakedowns were conducted with security operations with no findings of the weapon. On Monday the security level operations was returned to normal as more details of the investigation are being reviewed.
He also adds GPD's investigation of the crime continues and he asks for any members of the public that may have any information to call the Guam Police Department and/or Crime Stoppers hotline.
