In a major win for Guam, Westcare Pacific Islands has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Day 1 Families Fund — a transformational investment aimed at ensuring no child on our island sleeps outside.

WPI leaders say the funding will expand youth and family shelter capacity, master-lease additional units for families in crisis, bolster staff to accelerate housing placements, and renovate existing facilities for safer, more dignified temporary stays.

The one-time grant will be used over the next five years and positions WPI to serve even more families across Guam and Micronesia. The nonprofit is among 32 organizations nationwide chosen this year for their proven impact in addressing family homelessness.

Since 2018, the Day 1 Families Fund has awarded more than $850 million to organizations working to move families from crisis to stability.
