Man killed in high-speed crash in Piti; meth and firearm recovered
The Guam Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash along Route 1 by Fish Eye Marine Park that occurred on December 2. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Francisco Roberto Aguigui, marking Guam’s 19th traffic fatality of the year. Five others sustained non-fatal injuries.
According to preliminary information, Port Authority Police were pursuing a coupe driven by Aguigui northbound from Piti at a high rate of speed. Investigators say the coupe struck a van traveling ahead of it, causing the van to lose control, cross into the shoulder, and hit a guardrail. The coupe continued forward and ultimately collided with a concrete utility pole.
Guam Fire Department medics used the Jaws of Life to free Aguigui, but he was later pronounced dead at 12:39pm at the Guam Memorial Hospital.
Officers discovered methamphetamine, a pistol, and ammunition inside the vehicle. The car was impounded, and the investigation remains open.
