The island Thanksgiving tradition is for caring people to gather, bringing gifts for the collective good, and provide for those in need. Very fittingly, Sanctuary and WestCare  Pacific Islands, two organizations with a history of devoted, compassionate service, have merged.

"Today," proudly announced Aja Ramos, COO of WestCare, "we officially welcome Sanctuary to the West Care Pacific Islands family - a step that honors over five decades of community care, faith, and perseverance. This unity is not a loss of identity, but rather it's a continuation of purpose. This coming together isn't about change for the sake of change. It's about the continuity, ensuring that the values, programs, and people who have made Sanctuary a trusted name in youth care will continue to thrive for generations to come."

Vice chairperson Maria Leon Guerrero added, "Sanctuary's legacy of care remains alive in every staff member, every program, and every young person who finds safety here."

This unique combining of forces won't change their existing programs, and expands their regional reach in Saipan and Palau. Mark Mendiola, chairman, noted, " Through this partnership, we are building more than just a single organization. We are building a model for how communities in the Pacific can rise together."

For the teams that have manned the programs, the future is bright and secure to continue their goodwill. Leon Guerrero explained, "We're going to make sure that the employees are taken care of. And in fact, in my opinion, they are much better off now. They have the support of an organization that is giving them more opportunities for training and development and great benefits. And so I'm really pleased with the opportunities afforded to the team."

And the merge creates the best opportunity  for those with a heart to serve our community – social workers, volunteers or students earning service learning credits. Work of this nature isn't merely employment – it's a calling.
