Tropical Depression Fung-Wong brings wind, rain, and high surf

The National Weather Service continues to monitor Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which is slowly gaining strength as it moves northwest across the region. As of 1pm, the weather system located about 405 miles west-southwest of Guam, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour, and moving northwest at 14 miles per hour.
Forecasters say the storm is expected to intensify over the next few days — possibly reaching typhoon strength by Friday. For the Marianas, winds between 20-30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 35MPH, are expected through Friday, along with locally heavy rainfall that could bring 4-8"— raising the risk of flooding and mudslides.
Several advisories remain in effect, including a Wind Advisory and Flood Watch for Guam and Rota, a high surf advisory with 9-11' surf, and a high risk of rip currents across all islands. A Small Craft Advisory also remains in effect for coastal waters, with seas up to 13'.
