$250,000 bail set for suspect in April shooting

A superior court judge has set bail at $250,000 cash for 49-year-old Donald Joseph Lacno, the man accused in the April 3 fatal shooting of Carl Gargarita in Hågat.
Appearing via Zoom from the Department of Corrections, Lacno was arraigned on multiple charges — including aggravated murder with a special allegation of deadly weapon use. Prosecutors argued the shooting was premeditated, presenting video evidence and witness testimony placing Lacno at the scene.
Defense attorney Brycen Breazeale challenged that claim, saying there’s no evidence of intent or premeditation — and requested house arrest with electronic monitoring. But Magistrate Judge Jonathan Quan denied the motion, citing the seriousness of the offense and potential risk to witnesses, ordering Lacno held on $250,000 cash bail and strict no-contact conditions.
Lacno’s preliminary hearing is set for October 31.
