The Guam Community College celebrated 35 graduates from its workforce development programs, including the very first cohort of the YouthBuild Construction Trades Program.

Held at the GCC Multipurpose Auditorium, the ceremony also honored completers from the Truck Driving, Bus Driving, and Ship Repair Boot Camps, all designed to meet Guam’s growing industry demands and strengthen the island’s workforce.

The inaugural YouthBuild cohort, made up of seven young adults, spent over six months gaining hands-on training in safety, construction, and blueprint reading. They even helped build affordable homes through a partnership with the Guam Housing Corporation.

Funded by a four-year U.S. Department of Labor grant, YouthBuild helps young adults who left high school earn credentials and gain valuable career skills, combining classroom learning, technical training, and community service.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and GCC President Dr. Mary Okada praised the graduates for their perseverance and commitment, calling programs like YouthBuild vital pathways for opportunity and growth.

With continued support from the Guam Department of Labor, Smithbridge Guam, and other partners, GCC remains focused on training Guam’s next generation of skilled professionals, one boot camp, one builder, and one success story at a time.
