The Port Authority of Guam is strengthening both its physical and cyber defenses with more than $1 million in new federal funding.

The port was awarded over $1.1 million through FEMA's Port Security Grant Program. The package includes nearly a million in federal funds and a local match of about $129,000.

Upgrades will include a new barrier system at Main Gate 1 to stop unauthorized vehicles from breaching restricted areas, along with a modular floating dock system to boost Port Police and Coast Guard readiness.

Cybersecurity is also getting a major lift. The grant will fund upgrades to active directory, replace aging firewalls, and provide round-the-clock intrusion monitoring to meet federal security requirements.

Port general manager Rory Respicio says these investments harden the port’s perimeter and cyber backbone, protecting people, cargo, and critical missions while ensuring readiness for Guam and the region.
