Guam Department of Labor celebrates National Employ Older Workers Week

Guam Department of Labor joins the nation in celebrating National Employ Older Workers Week, a time to celebrate the experience, dedication, and value older workers bring to the workforce.
A luncheon was held at Capitol Kitchen to mark the week-long occasion.
NEOWW is observed in the last full week of September annually and is a nationwide initiative aimed at highlighting the vital role mature workers contribute in today’s economy and raises awareness about the importance of creating opportunities for them to continue contributing their skills and leadership across all industries.
A proclamation signing ceremony for NEOWW will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the Office of the Governor.
“Our Administration continues to look toward our manåmko’ not just for guidance, but for their strong experience and institutional knowledge. Many of them have strong skills in industries that are critical to Guam’s economy, such as education, healthcare, and public service,” said acting Governor Josh Tenorio. “Their continued participation in the workforce strengthens businesses and mentors younger employees.”
The Senior Community Service Employment Program supports mature workers aged 55 and older, and provides paid, part-time community service and on-the-job training opportunities that help participants build new skills, gain work experience, and transition into unsubsidized employment.
“I continue to seek support from the U.S. Department of Labor for funding for SCSEP so that we can continue to provide services for our older workers. The American Job Center is all about supporting individuals who want a career no matter what stage you are in life, and we prioritize those most in need,” said GDOL Director David Dell’Isola. “SCSEP is facing some uncertainty, so we want our participants to be prepared, but I will do everything I can to get support for the future needs of our manåmko’.”
