The All Hazards Alert Warning System siren at Fort Soledad in Humatak startled residents Wednesday morning when it went off with a test announcement.

But government officials were quick to clarify—there was no emergency and no scheduled testing at the time. This isn’t the first time the siren has misfired. Records from Homeland Security and Civil Defense show similar accidental activations earlier this year in July, May, and April, with incidents going back as far as 2023.

In a statement today, GHS/OCD said assessments are underway to identify and fix any issues with the Humatak siren. Officials remind the public that planned tests of the AHAWS sirens are conducted on the first Tuesday of every month, unless it falls on a holiday.
