For the third year in a row, Career Tech High Academy Charter School has failed to secure a clean bill of financial health. Independent auditors from Ernst & Young issued yet another disclaimer of opinion, saying they could not verify the school’s financial statements for Fiscal Year 2023.

The audit uncovered missing documentation for more than $293,000 in disbursements, unverified revenues totaling $501,000, and gaps in records for expenses and payroll exceeding $600,000. Even the school’s cash balance couldn’t be confirmed because of unreconciled bank items.

The result? Career Tech closed the year with a negative net position of $43,000—a nearly $94,000 drop from the year before.

Auditors also cited a material weakness in internal controls, warning that the lack of proper accounting systems heightens the risk of errors or even fraud.

School officials say they’ll recruit qualified accounting staff, introduce monthly reconciliations, adopt integrated software, and enforce stricter oversight starting in Fiscal Year 2026. But until then, repeated disclaimers continue to raise red flags over the charter school’s finances and accountability.
