An 18-year-old man accused of killing a 15-year-old boy in Yigo will remain locked up on a $1 million cash bail. Arnusio Lucio appeared in the Superior Court of Guam on Wednesday after being charged with aggravated murder, murder, and manslaughter.

Prosecutors say on Monday night Lucio chased down the boy and stabbed him in the head, calling it a heinous crime that ended a child’s life far too soon. Judge Sean Brown agreed Lucio posed a danger to the community and a flight risk, granting the attorney general’s request to keep him confined.

Lucio’s attorney told the court he plans to plead not guilty by reason of mental illness, citing witness accounts that Lucio appeared irate and intoxicated, and requesting a mental evaluation to determine his competency to stand trial.

That request will be taken up at his arraignment following grand jury indictment. For now, Lucio remains at the Department of Corrections awaiting his next court date.
