The Guam Department of Education is reassuring families tonight that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain their highest priority.

GDOE says precautionary protocols are in place and constantly reviewed to address emerging concerns, while still ensuring learning continues uninterrupted.

That assurance comes after a concerning start to the week at Luis P. Untalan Middle School.

At 10:22 Monday morning, the campus went on a modified shelter-in-place after reports that a student had a firearm. Officials also confirmed a bullet casing was discovered on school grounds.

Guam police investigated and determined there was no firearm, but did find a student carrying a gel blaster toy gun. The lockdown was lifted just before 1 p.m.

GDOE says updates will always be provided once information is verified, fact-checked, and cleared for release, to ensure families get reliable details without compromising safety measures.

In the meantime, GPD will continue to monitor the campus, and students are now required to use only clear or mesh bags.
