Western Pacific Maritime Academy hosts seminar to promote maritime training for Guam educators

The Western Pacific Maritime Academy held a seminar for Guam educators on Aug. 25 at Capitol Kitchen to showcase its maritime training and workforce placement programs.
WPMA Executive Director Captain Michael Bacher presented on the global shortage of seafarers and how the Marianas can help train the next generation of mariners.
He highlighted that entry-level mariners can earn upwards of $8,000 a month with the right credentials.
WPMA’s program includes seven days of training and a merchant mariner credential, with job placement support in both local and international maritime sectors.
To date, the academy has graduated 157 students from Guam and the CNMI, with more than 50 already employed in the field.
The seminar also honored student Alvin Dorolmar, who completed entry-level training earlier this year, and featured participation from education and industry leaders including the University of Guam.
