University of Guam showcases project progress with 2024 CIS & Sea Grant Impact Book

The University of Guam’s Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant has released its 2024 Impact Book, showcasing a year of progress in sustainable development.
The report highlights milestones such as record-breaking success in the Sea Turtle Management Program, the Guam Restoration of Watersheds, and the Guihan for Guahan campaign.
It also notes more than 12,000 participants in outreach activities, nearly 150 recorded sea turtle nesting events, and 59 students supported through fellowships.
Director Dr. Austin Shelton says the center delivered a 33.9-to-1 return on investment for every local dollar allocated, leveraging more than $33 million in total funding.
The report also features the UOG Conference on Island Sustainability, the launch of the CHalan Deskubre Hub, and ongoing efforts like pursuing Gold Standard Carbon Credit Certification for reforestation projects.
Through initiatives like the Guam Green Growth Conservation Corps, the team diverted thousands of aluminum cans from landfills, conducted cleanups, and trained a workforce for the green economy.
University President Dr. Anita Borja-Enriquez says the accomplishments reflect UOG’s growing leadership in sustainability for Guam and the Micronesian region.
The 2024 Impact Book can be found for free digitally at uog.edu/cis under the resources tab along with other publications from the group including posters, calendars, and books.
