A George Washington High School one-to-one aide has been arrested after allegations of assaulting a special education student. Police say Michael Hocog II faces charges including assault, child abuse, abuse of the incompetent, and official misconduct.

The incident was reported on August 8, when a student resource officer met with the school principal after the student’s mother filed a complaint and provided photos of her child’s injuries.

Witnesses say Hocog restrained the student and made verbal threats. Guam Department of Education officials addressing the incident in an interview with KUAM today.

Dr. Barbara Adamos, acting deputy superintendent of educational support and community learning, and Tom Babauta, assistant superintendent of special education, said, “We want to assure parents in the community that we want a safe, structured environment for all of our kids. We really value ensuring that students are in a nurturing situation, especially students with special needs. We take all those cases seriously. The school acted immediately upon finding out the information.”

They add the one-to-one aide is now assigned to GDOE's Central Office while the investigation remains open and active.

In the meantime, Hocog was booked and released; the case is now with the Attorney General’s Office.
