The National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

A tropical disturbance could bring heavy rain to the Marianas from Thursday evening through Sunday.

A surface trough within Chuuk State is expected to move northwest over the next couple of days, and is expected to develop into a weak circulation Thursday or Friday near the Marianas.

There is a potential for Guam and the CNMI to see rainfall amounts varying from 5 to 10 inches by Sunday, though locally heavier amounts are possible.

This rainfall is expected to produce minor flooding across the islands, with flash flooding possible in the areas of heavier rainfall.

Those living in flood-prone areas should take action, clear drainage areas, and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

  • Stay up to date with the latest information.
  • Clear loose debris around your yard.
  • Keep emergency preparedness kit readily available, with battery operated radio, flashlights and extra batteries.
  • Secure important documents such as birth certificates, tax papers, and insurance documents and keep copies in a water-proof bag.
  • Be prepared to take further action, if warranted.
