The University of Guam is celebrating a milestone in environmental education, completing the first term of its new island sustainability course.

Offered through the Micronesian Studies program, the course took a deep dive into cultural, historical, and environmental dimensions of sustainability with students exploring how Micronesian values can shape solutions to global challenges.

Throughout the semester, students toured UOG’s Island Conservation Lab and the Guam Green Growth Makerspace, and developed projects that ranged from children’s books on eco-topics to practical guides on sustainable agriculture.

Course instructor Dr. Else Demeulenaere says the program is about more than just learning, it’s about living and sharing island solutions.

The course will return in UOG’s next Fañomnåkan semester.
