The public education community celebrated joyously last night, as Simon Sanchez High School teacher Acie-Jo Cruz was named the 2026 GDOE Teacher of the Year. She and her fellow finalists – Sanchez's Julieta Anitok and Janice Evangelista from DL Perez Elementary School – were highlighted for their accomplishments in and out of the classroom, and how throughout their careers they've consistently made positive, lasting impacts on the lives of young people.

Acie-Jo, who teaches English-language arts and video in addition to being the senior class primary advisor, will represent Guam in the National Teacher of the Year Washington Week in DC. She also won the People's Choice category by online voters.

Congrats to Acie-Jo, her school, her family and friends, her students, and teachers from all sectors islandwide!
