"The timing of this grant couldn't be more ideal as we continue to prioritize public safety and address the unique challenges facing our island."

That's according to Chief Stephen Ignacio in a release announcing that the Guam Police Department was recently  awarded an estimated $3.5 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice.

This funding is part of the DOJ’s larger initiative, in which over $600 million has been allocated to law enforcement agencies across the country.

Ignacio stressed the significant impact the grant will have on the agency saying it will allow them to enhance response times, improve community policing initiatives, and further strengthen the department's capacity to prevent crime.
